Round Table with the theme “Indo-Czech Cooperation in Advanced Manufacturing”

11th October 2017, 2.30 P.M. – 4.00 P.M.
EEPC India Theme Pavilion,
Hall A1, Brno Exhibition Centre, Brno
Session Brief

India & Czech Republic have developed close cooperation to promote bilateral activities in trade, economy and commerce over the years.  Czech is an important trade partner for India in Central & Eastern Europe.  Areas like heavy engineering, mining, steel, modernization & heavy equipment have always been in focus in Indo-Czech bilateral relations.  EEPC India has played a significant role to develop close cooperation between the two countries in areas of engineering and manufacturing.  Some of the key areas where the two countries can cooperate closely and develop mutually beneficial relations are:-

  1. Cooperation and development of heavy engineering & manufacturing
  2. Testing, assessment and certification
  3. Localization of manufacturing
  4. Investments and technology transfer

Ministry of Steel, Power, Mines & Heavy Industry participation at MSV Brno 2017 will add the much needed focus on showcasing India’s manufacturing capabilities and strength in hard core manufacturing sectors.  Besides showcasing “Brand India” effectively and depicting the progress of Indian manufacturing industry over the years, it is also proposed that the participation of the ministries indicated above and its PSU’s is supplemented by a Round Table with the theme “Indo-Czech Cooperation in Advanced Manufacturing”.  Given below at the areas which may be discussed during the Round Table.

From the Indian side, we propose two representatives each from the participating PSUs and the departments to participate at the Round Table.  From the Czech side, the following companies may be invited for a discussion.  The broad terms of reference for discussions during the Round Table is also proposed.

TENTATIVE PROGRAM SCHEDULE
Sl. No. Wish list of Companies Agenda for discussion
1. Bonatrans Wheels Axles, tires for railway industry and the scope for localization of the production of wheels sets in India.
2. Engineering Test Institute It is a EC notified body in Czech Republic which offers conformity assessment, certification, testing and upgradation services.
The Indian industry faces barriers of trade and exports many times due to non-conformity to international standards.  The cooperation to develop conformity assessment may be discussed with the institute.
3. Vitikovice Ship building industry, shafts of all kinds
4. ZKL Target business relations among ZKL and Indian Government & private clients in the industrial sector may be developed particularly for steel works.
There is opportunity to explore supply of ZKL bearing for Indian railways including the localization of factory/production in India.
The customization of bearing design.  ZKL also delivers a range of products in metallurgy, power engineering, heavy engineering, mining and raw material processing and many others.  ZKL has supplies to many steel companies in India including Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd., Vizag Steel etc.  The Indian side is on the way to increase the annual steel production capacity to 150 million tones.  There is a heavy demand of import of special steel in the country.
5. Vitkovice Machinery Group Coke oven machines, transfer of technology for production of special grade of steel including melting and secondary refining.
Other areas of interest:-
· Conventional power engineering
· Casting & forging
Vitkovice a.s. is also of interest to BHEL since it is a supplier of wheel axes to water turbines and generators for their plant
6. Slevarny Trinec a.s. Grey/nodular, iron casting for wind energy application & metallurgical rolls
7. Frydek-Mistek a.s.
  • India has a huge annual requirement for Cold Rolled Grain Oriented (CRGO) electrical steel (approximately 250,000 metric tonnes per annum), which is a critical input required to manufacture transformers and is not manufactured in India.  Arcelor Mittal, Frydek-Mistek a.s., Czech Republic, one of the few manufacturers of CRGO electrical steel in the world, should consider setting up a manufacturing plant for CRGO electrical steel in India.
8. Technology requirement
  • India needs investments and technologies for crude steel, special steel, non-ferrous metals etc.  Centers like SAIL steel technology centre could explore avenues for technology development with Czech Republic.
  • Czech Republic is well renowned for its excellence in metallurgical technologies and also has few coalmines with spare capacities.  India looks for business and technological collaborations and would welcome Czech proposals.  The major Indian project authorities are Steel Authority of India, Tata Steel, Jindal, Hindalco, Coal India, Lignite Corporation etc.
  • Information with regard to the up-to-date technologies developed by Czech companies for water management, waste water and clean water treatment etc. including the recent innovation technology USBF (Fluid filtration).
  • Up-gradation of technology for total recycling of industrial waste water and improve water management infrastructure.
9. DSB DSB has more than 300 years of tradition and experience especially in the production of stainless steel and finished products of steel.  The company has manufacturing simulated by latest software so as to ensure maximum quality and functionality.  The areas of cooperation and development with these authorities can be envisaged.
10. Skoda Cooperation The Indian companies could also explore cooperation with Skoda in areas of transfer of technology ventures in India especially in the areas of all types of rolling stock.
11. Cooperation in the areas of mining Many of the PSUs in the steel sector participating in Czech Republic can look for cooperation with Czech companies in development of underground coal block by inclined drivages, working in steeply inclined seams etc.
12. CRGO/CRNGO
  • Indian side informed that the country is currently importing 3 million tones of CRGO/CRNGO steel (mostly used in construction of power electrical products such as transformers and machine tools etc.).  It does not have internal production capacity.  Czech Republic is home to two of the twelve global factories making the products.  India invites projects investments/FDI/Technology transfer for the products.
13. ELA, The Czech and Moravian Electrical and Electronic Association Explore cooperation, particularly in the field of smart grids with the applications in the quality of electrical energy, the industrial automation as well as in projects of “Smart House” automation systems.
